Controversy on the Runway

mark-fastIf any of us conjure up the image of the typical runway model, we all picture a waifish barely size 0 model strutting her stuff (or lack there of) looking like a skeleton draped in a thin sheet of skin. Canadian designer Mark Fast decided to break that stereotype by sending plus sized models down his runway at his Spring ‘10 show in London. To hear that this move caused his stylist and casting director to walk out two days before the show is shocking. What, are they embarrassed?? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this issue, leave a comment!

Crocs Banned!

Crocs

As Jews worldwide approach Yom Kippur in the next couple of hours, we contemplate our choice of shoes we will be wearing over the holiday since wearing leather is prohibited. Although made of plastic, a Lithuanian rabbi is imploring Jews NOT to wear crocs because they are too comfortable to be worn on a day of mourning. Thank goodness because if we did wear crocs, we would have one more thing for which to repent.

I’m all about fashion that’s fresh, different and way out there. None of us like to wear what we’ve already seen a thousand times over. Aren’t yall done with polos and jeans? At RawHem, we like to think: In with the new, out with the old. We’re about looking forward, finding something new. As editor, I’m always scouring the web for those pieces that make you give a second glance. This post, I’m talking shoes. Here are a couple of neck breakers I wanted to share with you, my dear readers!

I haven’t followed this girl in films since the first Harry Potter movie but I’m just amazed by how gorgeous this 19 year old looks in the Burberry Fall ads. She absolutely looks stunning and adds a fresh take on the brand that usually appeals to an older demographic. She makes the classic trench chic again! I’m simply obsessed with these ads.

I'm not sure whats more frightening: The way the dress makes her look like a pregnant grizzly or the fact that her boobs are sprouting out of her sides

Daniella: How old is that shirt? It looks ancient.

Me:What? How can you tell??

Simon Fashion Now!

Tonight I headed to Houston’s Galleria mall for the Simon’s ‘Fashion Now’ (invite-only!) fashion show event. I’m so grateful that you, my readers, made my blog this popular in only it’s first week because RawHem, my baby, landed me a spot in the event (Thanks again Shelly!). When I arrived at the entrance of the exquisitely draped venue, I approached a beautiful girl in charge of the invite list and gave her my name. I was then handed my wristband, colored black to represent my position as media and entered with my assistant Michel to whom I granted my +1. When we entered, we were served with a blue Grey Goose drink (delicious!) and we began to asses the crowd. I couldn’t believe I was in Houston, known for it’s lack of anything fashion. I was blinded with everything Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. The vibe of the event was very upbeat, thanks to a fabulous selection of music that spanned the entire length of the production. To summarize the feeling of being there, it’s safe to say I felt at home. I was super excited when the opening act of the show was a presentation from So Real Cru, known for performing and competing on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, they did an ah-mazing job! Check out the photo gallery to view tonight’s best looks from Tory Burch, Jimmy Choo, Carolina Herrera and others!

P.s The male models tonight are some serious eye candy.
